A Museum Quality Print of the Historic Highland Inn at Monterey Virginia for sale by Brandywine General Store. This scenic landscape shows the entire front of the building with just the tips of two sugar maple trees, one at each end. This grand hotel was built for a grand total of 6,000.00 in 1904. It is frame construction and built at the end of the Victorian age in the Queen Anne Style. The hotel's outstanding architectural feature is an elaborate Eastlake style two story southern porch with turned and sawn ornamentation. Monterey was named after Zachary Taylor when he became President of the United States in commemoration of his win of the big battle of Monterrey in Mexico. This county seat of Highland County now only has 250 residents. Up until recently this "Pride of the Mountains" went by the name of The Hotel Monterey.
