A Museum Quality Print of the Capitol Building at Williamsburg, Virginia for sale by Brandywine General Store. This scene under a deep blue and cloud filled sky shows the front part of the Capitol Building. The first capitol city in Virginia was at Jamestown, when the Capitol building burnt there in 1698 the Government decided to move the seat of government further inland and away from the swampy Jamestown area. The first Capitol building at Williamsburg was completed in 1705 and housed. The original building was built without fireplaces due to the many fires that these caused, but after several years it was decided that fire and some warmth was needed so they were added, also to keep papers and files drier. This building then burnt down in 1747. After a vote to approve a second building which was only approved by a 40 to 38 margin, the House of Burgess and other government branches moved into the 2nd building in 1753.
