Chambers, Thomas - Threatening Sky over the Bay of New York
A Museum Quality Reproduction Print of Threatening Sky over the Bay of New York by Thomas Chambers. The folk artist painted this oil on canvas sometime in the period of the mid 19th century. In 1973 the painting was purchased by Edgar William and Bernice Chrysler Garbisch who then in turn donated the artwork to the National Gallery of Art where it resides today. The scene shows the Bay of New York with a cloudy red sky overhead with a patch of sun showing near the horizon. A couple large ships and several small sailing boats are milling around in the Harbor, probably waiting for the storm to pass. Castle Williams is on the left bank of the harbor.
