Thomas Chambers Boston Harbor Folk Art Print
Brandywine General Store
$10.99
Archival art print of Boston Harbor by American folk artist Thomas Chambers. Painted in oil on canvas between 1843 and 1845, this vibrant nautical scene exemplifies Chambers' signature style — repeated rounded contours and boldly saturated colors that mirror the popular prints of the era. The original, measuring 27 by 35 inches, now hangs in the National Gallery of Art at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., gifted by Edgar William and Bernice Chrysler Garbisch in 1980. Sold at auction in 1845 alongside other Chambers works — which were often encouraged to be purchased in pairs — this piece is believed to have been acquired to hang in a shipping office. Folk art print #171.
