An archival premium quality art print of Attacking the Grizzly Bear by George Catlin, completed in 1844. This hand-colored lithograph captures the raw violence of a struggle between Grizzly Bears and the Plains Indians, originally published in Catlin's North American Indian Portfolio — Hunting Scenes and Amusements of the Rocky Mountains and Prairies of America — a landmark work that fed the American public's growing fascination with the West.
The scene depicts four Indians on horseback under attack by two large Grizzly Bears. The bears tear into the horses while the warriors fight back with lances and a makeshift tomahawk fashioned from a rifle butt fitted with a knife blade. A vivid and dramatic piece of American frontier art.
Please note: We have modified this print from the original. The original lithograph features a white sky that had yellowed significantly over time. We have replaced it with a blue sky which, in our opinion, improves the overall appearance — however, it does not match the original artwork exactly.
