Bartolomeo, Fra - The Scene of Christ in the Temple Art Print

Fine Art Prints of Distinction

$18.99

A Museum Quality Art Print of The Scene of Christ in the Temple by Fra Bartolomeo. The artist finished this color on poplar wood in the year 1516 and signed the artwork on the bottom step in the composition. Fra Bartolomeo painted this scene for the Church in his own Monastery, combining symmetrical structure, monumental figures, graphic clarity and solemn gravity and quiet gestures. The temple interior is depicted in the central perspective typical of the Florentine manner, which creates a format setting for the composition. The elderly Simeon is holding the Christ Child, who has been brought to the temple by his parents, Joseph and Mary. He recognizes in Him the Messiah and turns towards Mary and says "Behold, this Child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel and for a sign which shall be spoken against, Yea a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also, that the thought of many hearts may be revealed". From the New Testament of the Bible in the Book of Luke Chapter 2, verses 34 and 35.
