The composition shows a scene from a homestead along the country roads of West Virginia that was abandoned long ago. Ivy is growing up the tree with weird formations all along the branches and trunk, at one time this ivy might have been going up the chimney of the house. In behind the tree covered with ivy are a forsythia bush that is in full yellow bloom, while in behind that bush is a red blooming Quince. Both of these bushes were favorites of the old country farm homes of a hundred years ago.
