Vos, Simon de - Return of the Prodigal Son Fine Art Print
A Museum Quality Print of Return of the Prodigal Son by Simon de Vos, the artist completed this oil on copper artwork in the year 1641, signing and dating in bottom center. A man has two sons, with the younger son not being good in virtue or thrifty with his money. He can not wait for his Father to die before claiming his inheritance, so he demands that his father give him his inheritance immediately so he doesn't have to wait. After he receives his share of the money, he goes to a foreign land and soon blows all of his money. A drought hits this land and he can not even find work, so he is starving. In this state, he decides he has to come back home. His father, even after all he has went through with this son, is overjoyed to see him coming home. He throws a huge feast as a welcoming party complete with a fattened calf. The oldest son is put out by all of this, since his younger brother left and blew his money, telling his father that he won't even let him have a goat for a feast let alone a fattened calf. The Father says everything that he has will belong to the oldest son and that they should be glad that the younger son has returned home to them and forgive him his sins. This parable, as told by Jesus, is found in the New Testament in the Book of Luke Chapter 15.
