This oil on canvas was painted by Van Gogh in January of 1890, while at the asylum in Saint Remy, after battling several rounds of epilepsy. While in the asylum, Van Gogh ran out of ideas for his own original paintings, so he started making hand painted oil canvas's after other artists that he admired. This one was copied after Jean Francois Millet, but Van Gogh added his own originality and ideas to these paintings so they are still considered as being his own. The scene shows a peasant man and woman who had been working at getting in the hay crop, they are now resting, laying their head on the haystack with their sickles laying beside them. The original of this hand painted oil on canvas resides in the Musee d' Orsay in Paris France. Famous Artists print #79
