Santa Barbara Mission in California Art Print

Brandywine General Store

A Museum Quality Art Print of the Santa Barbara Mission in California. This scenic landscape shows the rock or block building with pink trim, a tall tree with arms that looks just like a coat rack is to the right while in the front are flowers and succulents. This mission was founded by Padre Fermin Lasuen of the Franciscan Order on December 04, 1786. This was the tenth such mission founded for the purpose of converting the indigenous local Chumash - Barbareno tribe of Native American peoples to the Christian religion. The grounds occupy a rise between the Pacific Ocean and Santa Ynex Mountains. Mission Santa Barbara is the only mission to still remain under the leadership of the Franciscan Friars since its founding and today is a parish Church of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The name comes from the legend of St. Barbara, a girl who was supposedly beheaded by her father for following the Christian Faith. Picture #68
