Rousseau, Henri - The Waterfall Fine Art Print
A Museum Quality Print of The Waterfall by Henri Rousseau for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist painted this oil on canvas during the last year of his life in 1910 and might not be quite completed. The size of the original canvas is 46 by 59 inches and is signed and dated lower right. The original work of art is now at the art Institute of Chicago being given to them in 1926 by Frederick C. Bartlett. Rousseau's visionary paintings captivated the art world with their representations of lush plant and animal life painted with incredible detail and precision. This canvas might not be quite finished, a few leaves on the branches of the tree on the left foreground lack some of the artist's characteristic overlapping layers of colors. His depictions of jungles and exotic locales were so real looking even though he never stepped foot outside the country of France. He got his ideas by visiting zoos and botanical gardens, also images from postcards, photographs and illustrated journals.
