An archival premium Quality folk art Print of Colonel Nathan Beckwith by Ammi Phillips for sale by Brandywine General Store. The naive artist painted this early American portrait in 1817. Colonel Beckwith and his wife, whose portrait we also carry, were a prominent couple from Dutchess County. Nathan was a land surveyor. The Beckwith's prominence in early America are evidenced by their dignified postures and the attractive painted Federal style chairs in which they are setting for their portraits. Colonel Beckwith is holding an envelope in his hand which is inscribed Col 1 Nathan Beckwith, Redhook Dutches County and postmarked Troy along with the number 10.
