Melendez, Luis - Still Life with Melon and Pears
A Museum Quality Print of Still Life with Melon and Pears by Luis Melendez. This oil on canvas was completed by the Spanish artist in the year 1772 with the size of the original artwork being 20 by 24 inches. Melendez highly sought out shapes, surfaces and colors to paint, such as the webbed rind of the melon to the glint of a wine bottle cooling in a cork bucket. Rounding out the composition is a stone bowl with a big black lid, a wooden measure, wooden spoons and a splint basket with a cloth and some type of pastry. Even though a lot of his artworks are crowded with subject matter, they always convey a satisfying sense of balance and measure. This still life is most likely from a series of 45 canvas's that were created for the King's summer home outside Madrid. These paintings were supposed to represent every food that was produced in the country of Spain.
