A Museum Quality Art Print of October by Jules Bostien Lepage. This French Artist finished this painting in 1878, the size of the original canvas was 71 by 77 inches and now resides at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia. This painting and The Haymakers were a pair of harvest scenes exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1878 and 1879 and began a new direction in the career of this artist, due to the success and critic approval of the artworks. October was painted in Lepage's native village of Damvillers in Northeastern France and shows a bleak autumnal potato harvest, set in a bare drab landscape. Two women are shown in the forefront picking up potatoes and putting the crop in sacks, other potato pickers are shown in the background of this large field. One of the women has just filled her basket and is pouring the potatoes in the sack while the other woman is setting, picking up the vegetables off the ground to put in her basket.
