A Museum Quality Art Print of Rainy Day in Boston by Childe Hassam. This oil on canvas was painted by the artist in the year 1885 and is now at the Toledo Museum of Art. The original artwork measured 122 by 66 centimeters in size, which is almost a panoramic landscape in size. This work was painted at at time when urban landscapes were still a rarity in the Unites States art world. The scene depicts the intersection of Columbus Avenue and Appleton Street in Boston's South End. In his first major oil painting, the artist was trying to win over the American people with the modern urban theme so embraced by the French Impressionists he had encountered while in Paris. The view shows a rainy day with a woman and child in the forefront under an umbrella, while several horse and buggies with passengers are traveling by on the rain covered Boston Streets.
