Ferdinand of Austria, Cardinal Infante Portrait by Diego Velazquez Art Print

Fine Art Prints of Distinction

A Museum Quality Art Print of a Portrait of Cardinal Infante Ferdinand of Austria by Diego Velazquez. The artist finished this oil on canvas around the year 1633 with the size of the original artwork being 191 by 107 centimeters. Ferdinand was the son of Felipe III and Margarita de Austria and was born in 1609. He was Cardinal from the age of ten and Governor of Flanders from 1634 until his death in Brussels in 1641. This portrait was made just before he left to govern the Netherlands. He is shown in his hunting garb with rifle and hunting dog. Velazquez also painted portraits of the Cardinal's brother, King Felipe IV and his nephew, Prince Baltasar Carlos. All three of these paintings were made for the family's hunting lodge, Torre de la Parada, which was in the foothills of El Pardo.
