Edgartown Lighthouse on Martha's Vineyard Fine Art Print
A Museum Quality Print of Edgartown Light House located on Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts. This picture shows a spectacular water scene with the lighthouse out on its little island and sailboats are all around the harbor. This lighthouse was established in 1828 due to the large number of vessels frequenting this harbor during the whaling boom of the late 1700s through to the mid 1800s. The original lighthouse was destroyed during the Hurricane of 1938, it was replaced with a 45 feet high lighthouse from Ipswich, which was made out of cast iron and built in 1881. At this time the lighthouse was electrified and automated, no one had to actually stay here and keep the light going anymore. This is one of five lighthouses located on Martha's Vineyard.
