Cole, Thomas - Indian Pass Western Art Print
A Museum Quality Reproduction Print of Indian Pass by Thomas Cole. This oil on canvas was completed by the artist in 1847 with the size of the original artwork being 40 by 30 inches. In this painting the English born but American artist created a primeval past of the United States. He uses sunshine to illuminate a grand wilderness scene which is filled with fallen branches, lichen covered woods and trees that give way to a towering mountain that is as high as the clouds in the sky. In the foreground, blasted trees suggest the inevitable passage of time while the Native American Indian with his bow in hand, introduces a nostalgic element to the composition. By the time this work was painted, the Indians had already disappeared from the American wilderness.
