Thomas Chambers Staten Island and the Narrows Folk Art Print

$10.99

Archival art print of Staten Island and the Narrows by American folk artist Thomas Chambers. Painted in oil on canvas between 1835 and 1855, this sweeping harbor scene depicts the lower New York Harbor between southern Brooklyn and Staten Island — the very stretch of water now spanned by the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.

Like many of Chambers' works, this composition was inspired by a popular print of the era — specifically an engraving published in American Scenery in 1840 by William Bartlett. Chambers transformed these widely circulated images into bold, vividly colored folk art paintings that captured the spirit of the American landscape movement. Folk art print #172.
