Caravaggio - Conversion on the Way to Damascus Fine Art Print
A Museum Quality Reproduction Print of Conversion on the Way to Damascus by Caravaggio, the artist finished this oil on canvas in the year 1601. The artwork was commissioned by the Santa Maria del Popolo in Rome for the Cerasi Chapel, where this masterpiece still resides today after 400 years. This chapel also has another painting by Caravaggio entitled Crucifixion of St. Peter. This painting depicts when Saul, soon to become the Apostle Paul, fell on the Road to Damascus when he is overcome with the Spirit of Jesus Christ and is flung off his horse. He heard the Lord say, "I am Jesus, whom you persecute, arise and go to the City." Before his conversion, Paul was a zealous Pharisee, who took part in persecuting the followers of Jesus, even taking part in the stoning of Steven. This story is related in the Bible in Chapter 9 of the Book of Acts of the Apostles.
