Boone, Daniel - Portrait by Chester Harding
A Museum Quality Print of the Daniel Boone Portrait by Chester Harding. The artist completed this oil on canvas in the year 1820 and this is the only likeness of the famous Daniel Boone that is known to exist. This frontier explorer was 84 years old when this was painted, he died a few months later. Daniel Boone was staying with his daughter, Jemima Boone Callaway in Missouri when this likeness was captured. Daniel Boone was a legend in his own time, he was one of 11 children of Quaker parents. Boone explored the Western Frontier of Kentucky and established the frontier outpost of Boonesborough, which was one of the first white settlements in the territory of Kentucky. The artist asked Boone if he had ever been lost during all his years of exploring the frontier lands to which Boone replied "No, I can't say as I was ever lost, but I was bewildered once for three days".
