Beckett, Francis A - Blacksmith Shop Folk Art Print
A Museum Quality Reproduction Print of Blacksmith Shop by Francis A. Beckett. The folk artist painted this oil on canvas in 1880. The composition shows the inside of a large prosperous blacksmith shop. A huge bellows is above the hearth, this was to blow air into the fire so it would get the iron hot enough to work and shape. On the back wall are the tongs and other tools the smith's used to forge their metals. The hammers and other tools are in the front of the 3 men working in the shop. It looks as if the blacksmiths were in the process of making the outer metal rung for a wagon wheel.
