An archival premium Quality Art Print of The Feast in the House of Simon the Pharisee by Paolo Veronese for sale by Brandywine General Store. This is another of the huge canvases that was painted by Veronese, this one measures 187 by 383 inches in size. He completed this oil on canvas in the year 1570. The artist painted this work for the refectory of the Servites in Venice. It was later gifted to the Republic of Venice to Louis XIV in 1664 and placed in the Hercules Salon at Versailles in 1712. Magnificent architecture articulates this crowded scene. Simon the Pharisee had invited Jesus to have dinner with him. When a sinful woman of the town found out that Jesus was coming here to eat, she bought a bottle of expensive perfume, she came to the dinner and found Jesus and washed his feet with her tears then poured the expensive perfume on them. Simon and the others at the dinner were not happy that Jesus was paying attention to this sinful woman and thought then that he was not a prophet or he would know what kind of woman this was. Jesus told them that she had the greatest sin and paid the most to have her sins absolved, she had bought the expensive perfume and washed his feet where Simon didn't even pour olive oil on my head. Jesus said "So I tell you that all her sins are forgiven, and that is why she has shown great love. But anyone who has been forgiven for only a little will show only a little love." This story is from the Book of Luke Chapter 9. Please be aware that this picture shows considerable wear especially along the bottom 1/5 of the composition. Religious art print #37
