An archival premium Quality Art Print of Cardinal Fernando Nino de Guevara painted by El Greco around 1600 for sale by Brandywine General Store. The size of this original oil on canvas is 67 by 42 inches in size and is considered one of his masterpieces in the painting of portraits. The setter for this portrait is thought most likely to be Nino de Guevara, who was made a cardinal in 1596 and then became the Archbishop of Seville in 1601. King Philip III appointed him to the Royal Council and head of the Inquisition. It was in this capacity, that the Cardinal visited Toledo in February and March of 1600. He was also in the city again in 1601 and 1604, this portrait would have been painted during one of these visits. The exact date has not been discovered by art historians. El Greco had previously lived in Venice and the work of Titian and the tradition of Venetian portraiture were crucial models for this painting. Religious art print #60
