SKU: 1918 DC #2-493

An antique 1918 District of Columbia passenger car license plate for sale at Brandywine General Store. This '18 DC DMV auto tag is yellow with black letters, DC and 18 are stacked vertically on the right side of this long plate. This was the first year that the District of Columbia dated their license plates and also the first year for metal tags, all previous years were undated and made out of porcelain. Surprisingly, the value of this license plate is greater than some of the later porcelain issues. The Department of Motor Vehicles only issued single tags for the state's motorists to use during the year of manufacture of 1918, this was the last year for single plates in our Nation's Capital, except for the WWII era. If you would want to use this plate for year of manufacture purposes on your antique 1918 Ford Model T, Chrysler Touring Car or any other antique DC automobile, it would need refinished, but the plate is still good and solid and would be a good candidate for restoration. Before purchasing for YOM use you would have to check with the District of Columbia Department of Motor Vehicles to see if they allow the use of antique license plates for YOM purposes. One of these tags has 2 extra holes, but they are perfectly round and look as if they might have been made that way, but our other example doesn't have those holes. We have more than one of these 1918 District of Columbia car license plates available for sale at Brandywine General Store but we have included a picture and listing of each one that we currently have in stock.
