Caladium Bicolor Neumannii Botanical Art Print – Louis Van Houtte
Two overlapping Caladium leaves reveal a striking contrast of color and texture in this antique botanical illustration. The foreground leaf is deep green, scattered with irregular rose-red markings edged in white. Behind it, a pale yellow-green leaf shows its underside, with branching veins and softly muted spots. Their broad, heart-shaped forms and curving stems create an elegant foliage study against a light background.
Identified as the Neumannii variety of Caladium bicolor, this illustration comes from Louis Van Houtte’s The Flowers of the Greenhouses and Gardens of Europe, Volume 13, published in 1858. The paired views invite a closer look at the leaf’s distinctive markings, making this print a lovely companion to other Caladium studies or a colorful accent for a plant-inspired room.
