Pissarro, Camille - Poultry Market at Gisors Art Print

Brandywine General Store

$19.99

An Art Print of The Poultry Market at Gisors by Camille Pissarro for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist finished this Tempera and pastels on paper mounted on wood in 1885. The scene shows a crowded poultry market in a village in Gisors, France. There are live chickens here along with women with baskets from which you could probably buy eggs. You could also probably get your chicken's heads cut off here to save you doing this at home, since it looks like there is a chopping block in the center of the composition. Or you could buy your chickens and take them home and feed them until you were ready to eat them and then kill them yourself. It used to be a day's work getting chickens ready to eat, this is why chickens used to be eaten only on Sundays, as they were such hard work. After butchering the chickens, they then had to be scalded in boiling water so you could pick all the feathers easier, then the meat needed cleaned and cut up. Famous artists print #137 an archival premium quality art print.
