An archival premium Quality art Print of the Arrival of the Normandy Train, Gare Saint-Lazare by Claude Monet for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist finished this oil on canvas in the year 1877 with the original measuring 23 by 32 inches. Mr and Mrs Martin A Ryerson bequeathed this painting to the Chicago Art Institute in 1933 where it still resides today. This was the famous train station that served the suburbs of Paris along the Seine River Valley. Despite its bold style, this artwork is an example of the Impressionist focus on city life. This train station was a modern iron, frame and glass architecture which Monet captured with rapid, sketch like strokes. He also captures the light as it pours through the glass roof and mixed with the swirling steam from the train engines. It was rumored at the time that Monet arranged to have the standing locomotives stoked with extra coal so that he could observe and paint the effects of the belching steam. This would make a very good addition to a rec room or basement where a model train layout is set up, or for in the home of any train enthusiast.
