When you see an advertisement for West Virginia University this building is usually included. Woodburn Hall was built in 1876 and is part of the WVU Quadrangle, the original name was University Hall. The architecture of this college centerpiece is red brick of the Second Empire style under a mansard roof. The initial construction cost was 41,500.00 which was funded by a state property tax. Woodburn Hall has had many uses over the years but since the turn of the 20th century it has been used exclusively as the College of Arts and Sciences.
