Water Lily, Cape Blue by Louis Van Houtte Botanical Art Print
A Museum Quality Botanical Art Print of the Cape Blue Water Lily by Louis van Houtte. This French Botanical artist drew this beautiful water lily for his great journal, The Flowers of the Greenhouses and Gardens of Europe. This blue flower was in volume 26 which was published around 1850. The Nymphaea Capensis is an aquatic flowering plant of the water lily family Nymphaeaceae. It is native to Africa where the plant grows abundantly in the freshwater habitats in the tropical regions of this continent. It has also been introduced to Australia, Florida and other tropical areas where it also flourishes. The bulbs of this plant can survive fairly long periods of time without rainfall or moisture, then when rain does come, the bulb will sprout leaves and shortly afterwards get their blue flowers. It needs full sun and shallow waters in which to grow well.
