An archival premium Quality Art Print of The Little Street View of Houses in Delft by Jan van Vermeer for sale by Brandywine General Store. The scene in this artwork shows a cobblestone street with two houses and an alley between the homes. A woman sits in an open doorway busily sewing, while two children are playing on the stoop. Soapy water is washing down between the paving stones, from scrubbing or washing. Vermeer has recorded this every day scene with apparent casualness. When Vermeer died in 1675, his estate only recorded 34 paintings, these found their way into private collections and were forgotten. In the 19th century his works were rediscovered and became popular and prices for his artwork soared. Professor Jan Six owned The Little Street at the beginning of the 20th century, he wanted one million guilders for the painting but in the end sold it for 625,000 to a wealthy industrialist who in 1921 presented it to the Rijksumuseum. The Little Street, View of Houses in Delft now hangs near the other three Vermeers in the Museum, namely The Kitchen Maid, Woman Reading a Letter at an Open Window and The Love Letter. Old Masters art print #32
