A Blue and Purple flowering vine with common name of Purging Pharbitis, this vine looks a lot like our present day morning glory. This botanical print shows a single purple and single blue flower along with a bud ready to bloom and a spent flower. This plant was described as having a milky resinous juice which was used as a purgative when this volume was written. However the syrup was very active and due to its drastic nature, it was to be used with great caution. The purging pharbits was native to Puerto Rico, New Grenada, Saint Domingo and Mexico.
Pharbitis Cathartica - This botanical print reproduction was taken from the Curtis Botanical Magazine, Volume 73 from the year 1847.
