The artwork was in  Volume 8 published April 01, 1794. The picture shows branch of a tree with long red blooms and green leaves, it almost has a Christmas like appearance. The Harsh Leaved Metrosideros was described thus - An evergreen shrub growing to a height of four to six feet, the leaves come out on the hard wood and feel very hard or rigid to the touch and when bruised, give off a very agreeable fragrance. This Metrosideros was very common in the South Seas, but this example that was drawn or illustrated by Curtis, is thought to be the only example that had ever bloomed in England.
