A Museum Qualit Print of The Harvest by John Frederick Herring. The artist completed this oil on canvas in the yer 1857 with the original measuring 23 by 35 inches in size and is now located at the Yale Center for British Art. The scene shows the farmers getting in the summer hay crop for the winter feeding of the animals. A large wagon full of loose hay is being pulled up the hill by a team of horses on their way to put the hay in the barn for winter, You can see down into the valley where a huge hay field is full of more hay stacks with another wagon coming up with another load. Some of the women are resting a bit until their turn at helping with the next wagon. This was a large farm for back in the day of this painting when all the hay work had to be completely done by hand, before the days of any mechanized equipment.
