A Museum Quality Print of Self Portrait in 1498 by Albrecht Durer, one of the best known German Renaissance artists, finished this portrait of himself in 1498, after his 1st trip to Italy and the year before his publication of his famous edition of The Apocalypse. During this year Durer had been elevated in status to that of a member of the upper social circles such as the wealthy merchants. He was portraying this in the portrait by the clothes he was wearing including the kid leather gloves. The inscription on the window ledge translates to "I painted this from my own appearance, I was twenty six years old. The portrait was acquired by Charles I of England and later bought by Phillip IV of Spain.
