$7.99

A museum quality print of Dianthus Sinensis var Lacinatus by Louis Van Houtte which was artwork for his great botanical books, The Flowers of the Gardens and Greenhouses of Europe, which were published in Europe in the middle of the 19th century, this picture was from volume 13 from 1858. This carnation was described in the Florist, Fruitist and Garden Miscellany book from 1860 thus "This flower is evidently related to D. Heddowigii as the flowers are equally large, the petals narrower and split at the ends into long narrow segments, so that the flowers are more fringed. It varies much in color and also in producing single and double flowers in colors of white, blush, lilac, rose, carmine, purple, violet and maroon. Van Houtte shows a full bouquet of these carnations in colors of white, pink and red, with most in full bloom but also some buds at the top.
