Cezanne Paul - Still Life with Apples
A Museum Quality Print of Still Life with Apples by Paul Cezanne. This oil on canvas was painted by Cezanne sometime during the period of 1895 to 1898, the original size was 27 by 36 1/2 inches in size and now hangs in the Museum of Modern Art. In this post impressionism painting, the artist draws attention to the quality of paint and canvas. For example, the edges of the fruits in the bowl are undefined and appear to shift. The rules of perspective are also broken with the right corner of the table tilting forward and is not aligned with the left side. Some areas of the canvas are bare and the drape of the tablecloth appears to be unfinished. The scene shows several different kinds of fruits on the table, which include what looks like apples, oranges and maybe limes in the bowl. There is a water pitcher and goblet finishing out the decoration on the table top.
