$18.99

An archival premium quality art print of The Martyrdom of Saint Matthew, painted by Italian Baroque artist Caravaggio in 1600. St. Matthew was killed on the orders of King Hirtacus of Ethiopia, who sought to marry his own niece — a nun — and was forbidden by Matthew. In the painting, Matthew reaches his hand upward toward a heavenly figure above him as the executioner moves to strike. Caravaggio painted himself into the scene as the last figure in the background. Picture #105.
