American Flamingo by John James Audubon Art Print
A Museum Quality Art Print of the American Flamingo as originally drawn by John James Audubon for his book The Birds of North America. This bird was picture number 431 in the Havell first edition of the book. He encountered these birds in Florida during his trip there in 1832, however due to the shyness of these birds he was not able to obtain a specimen at this time. In 1838 he obtained a specimen from Cuba, from which this painting was made. The American Flamingo can get to be 4 feet tall and weigh between 4 to 6 pounds, their plumage can range from bright pink to orange, their only habitat in the United States is in southern Florida. These long graceful birds have been known to live over 60 years in captivity. The original print of the American Flamingo by Audubon had pencil drawings of the bill, feet and etc in the margins, I have removed them.
