The artist left his apartment, in which he usually found his subjects, for this painting. This looks like the scene is from a very upscale store, probably in Paris. There are paintings hanging on the walls above all the other items, glass cases are full of figurines, vases and expensive potteries, while beside the door looks like a book case which is probably full of rare leather bound first editions. A well dressed man is looking into the case on the right side of the picture, with a woman, who I would assume is the sales clerk waiting to see if she can be of any help. Famous artists print #88
