The original artwork was most likely finished in the year 1898 and was recently sold by Christies for the sum of 50,000.00 after being descended in the artists family since the work was completed. Signed in the lower left corner Vastagh Geza with the size being 36 by 51 inches. The picture portrays a snowy landscape in the Atlas Mountains in Algeria, North Africa. The artist spent four months here in 1898 after winning a National Art Competition. This species of Atlas Lion was still alive, although after French colonization this species was already almost extinct.
