An archival premium Quality art Print of Pug a Young Pup by Carl Reichert for sale by Brandywine General Store. This oil on panel shows a young pug pup who has bulging eyes and drooping ears along with a blue ribbon and a turkey bell around its neck on a collar. It all makes a very endearing image of this popular breed of dog. The early history of the Pug is not attested to in detail, it is accepted that modern Pugs are descended from dogs imported to Europe from China in the 16th century. Similar dogs were popular in the Imperial court during the Song Dynasty. Pugs were popular at European courts, and reportedly become the official dog of the House of Orange in 1572 after a Pug named Pompey saved the life of the Prince of Orange by alerting him to the approach of assassins. These dogs remained favorites of the English royalty for many years and eventually their popularity spread to other countries. Country Decor art print #178
