This oil on canvas was completed by the artist in the year 1899. The setting is a beautiful forest glade with a small creek running thru the woods with a small area of grassy hilly country on the opposite side of the creek. On this side of the creek is a huge buck who is bellering, it must be a cold morning because you can see the breath coming out of his mouth. Across the creek in the grassy area is another huge buck, but this one has the females or does with him. Both of these bucks are veterans and have been around a long time, both have a huge set of horns or racks. It looks like a fight is brewing between these two masters of the woods.
