An archival premium Quality Print of the William Henry Harrison Portrait by Albert Gallatin Hoit for sale by Brandywine General Store. This oil on canvas of the 9th President, was completed by the artist in 1840. The size of the original is 30 by 25 inches and now hangs in the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian Institute. Harrison's reputation as an Indian fighter and hero of the War of 1812 made up for his lack of political experience and was enough to carry him to victory in the Presidential race of 1840 for the Whig Party. Jubilance however, was short lived as this "hard cider" victory was very short lived. Soon after delivering the longest inaugural speech in history during a cold damp day, he contracted pneumonia and died on April 04, 1841, only after 1 month in office, the shortest time ever served by any President. He was also the first US president to die in office, he was also the first setting president to have his photograph taken, but unfortunately the original picture taken on his inaugural day has been lost. Harrison was also the last President to serve who was born a British subject in the colonies before the Revolution. William Henry Harrison was the hero of the Battle of Tippecanoe which led to his nickname and also one of the most famous slogans in American politics, Tippecanoe and Tyler Too. He was the grandfather of another United States President, Benjamin Harrison. Famous People art print #37
