Bellis, Antonio de - The Liberation of St. Peter Art Print
An archival premium Quality Art Print of The Liberation of St. Peter by Antonio de Bellis for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist finished this oil on canvas sometime during the period of the early 1640s. The size of the original artwork is 70 by 102 inches and now hangs at the Whitfield Fine Art Museum for Old Master Paintings in London, England. This masterpiece was just recently discovered and is a revelation, showing Antonio de Bellis as a major figure in Neapolitan painting at its most interesting period. This painting depicts the moment in time as explained in the Book of Acts, Chapter 12, Verses 3-19. Peter was put into prison by King Herod, but the night before his trial was to begin, an angel appeared before Peter and told him to leave. The chains fell off Peter and the prison gates opened of their own accord and the angel led him out of prison into the city. When Herod discovers that Peter has escaped from his prison, he orders the guards put to death. Religious art print #45
