Memphis TN Farmers and Merchants Bank Obsolete $3.00 bill 1854

Brandywine General Store

$179.99
SKU: TN obsolete #21

An obsolete three dollar bill from the Farmers and Merchants Bank of Memphis Tennessee dated 1854 for sale by Brandywine General Store. This was the first bank in Memphis TN, being chartered on November 27, 1833. Two of the most influential citizens of Memphis were killed and several wounded in a fight in front of the courthouse over who was going to control this bank. This occurred after a couple years of fighting in the courts, so I guess they decided to take the law into their own hands. The reputable establishment where this obsolete note was purchased graded this bill at Very Fine with a few very small pinholes. In the Tennessee obsolete banks reference book this bill is rated at R6 meaning between 51 to 60 are still thought to exist. The pictures show the front and back of the actual Farmers and Merchants Bank of Memphis obsolete currency that is for sale.
