CR #17a Missouri Defence Bond Obsolete $3.00 Civil War Currency
Obsolete three dollar Missouri Defence Bond printed during the Civil War by the Southern MO government while in exile for sale by Brandywine General Store. The obsolete currency has an allegorical figure representing Prosperity floating over the water and the Missouri state seal is at the left. Missouri actually had two governments during the Civil War, a Northern one and a Southern one. This bill was in the second series of defence bonds produced by the Southern Government while they were in exile. When the entire state was taken over by the Union, the southern government officials fled to Marshall Texas and "operated" from there. This three dollar Missouri Defence Bond is designated by Criswell as MO #17a meaning it is on paper with no watermark, the rarity is R-6 meaning it is estimated between 401 to 800 still exist. Our estimation of grade is extra fine with mounting marks visible at the top and has a small corner fold.
