An obsolete 25 cents change note issued by The Bank of the State of South Carolina during the Civil War on Feb 1, 1863 on watermarked paper. The obsolete money has a small palm tree in the center and blue overprints, this is a small change sized note. In the South Carolina reference book on obsolete currency this note is designated as #517 which means it is the variety of the quarter note that is on watermarked paper which is a good bit scarcer than the regular issue. It is rated R3 on the rarity scale meaning only between 51 to 75 are still thought to exist. Our estimation of grade to be used as a reference only is very fine. The pictures show the front and back of the actual South Carolina obsolete money that is for sale to help you judge the condition yourself before purchasing.
