Venetsianov, Alexey - Reapers Fine Art Print
A Museum Quality Print of The Reapers by Alexey Venetsianov for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist finished this painting in the late 1820s with the original oil on canvas now being in the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. In the 1820s Venetsianov began painting large canvases with more general images such as The Reapers. This artwork was created at the height of the artist's career and is considered one of his finest works. The picture is one of the many genre portraits painted modeled after Venetsianov's creative heritage. This romantic art was impressive with its profound characteristics and special expressions. The scene shows a young man and woman, taking a break after a hard days work of cutting the wheat crop. The boy and girl both have a sycle in their hand, these were used to cut the grain before the days of mechanization. Both are dressed in the peasant attire of Russia with the girl having two small butterflies on her arm. The tall stalks of wheat are shown in the background towering over the heads of the boy and girl.
