Van Gogh Vincent - The Hill of Montmartre with Stone Quarry Fine Art Print
A Museum Quality Reproduction Print of The Hill of Montmartre with Stone Quarry by Vincent Van Gogh. The artist painted this canvas in 1886 while staying with his brother, Theo in his apartment in Paris. This apartment bordered the countryside and overlooked the city of Paris. Van Gogh painted a series of pictures of the Montmartre countryside while staying with Theo. At the time of these paintings this country landscape was fast disappearing as a result of the city's expansion, as evidenced here by the stone quarry, which was used for expanding the roads and buildings of the city. The diagonal lines of the fences and clouds draws the viewer's eye to the middle of the composition towards the large windmill just to the right of the center. This also helped increase the depth in the picture.
